Memory for Lectures: How Lecture Format Impacts the Learning Experience
The present study investigated what impact the presentation style of a classroom lecture has on memory, mind wandering, and the subjective factors of interest and motivation. We examined if having a professor lecturing live versus on video alters the learning experience of the students in the classroom. During the lectures, students were asked to report mind wandering and later complete a memor...
متن کاملEvaluation of large-group lectures in medicine – development of the SETMED-L (Student Evaluation of Teaching in MEDical Lectures) questionnaire
BACKGROUND The seven categories of the Stanford Faculty Development Program (SFDP) represent a framework for planning and assessing medical teaching. Nevertheless, so far there is no specific evaluation tool for large-group lectures that is based on these categories. This paper reports the development and psychometric validation of a short German evaluation tool for large-group lectures in medi...

Inner ear hair cells convert hair bundle deflection into mechanical force sensed by ion channels via extracellular tip links between adjacent stereocilia. In this Neuron issue, Grillet and colleagues show the protein harmonin mechanically reinforces tip link upper insertion sites. Harmonin loss at this site reduces mechanotransduction kinetics and sensitivity.

Preface The main goal of this book is to describe several tools of the quasi-isometric rigidity and to illustrate them by presenting (essentially self-contained) proofs of several fundamental theorems in this area: Gromov's theorem on groups of polynomial growth, Mostow Rigidity Theorem and Schwartz's quasi-isometric rigidity theorem for nonuniform lattices in the real-hyperbolic spaces. We con...
متن کاملMammography screening: how far is too far?
INTRODUCTION This study answers the question: 'How far must a Canadian woman travel before the risk of a motor vehicle accident (MVA) outweighs the benefits of mammography screening?'. METHODS Numbers needed to screen and false positive rates were extracted from information in the breast screening guidelines from the Canadian Task Force on screening for breast cancer.
